Another year, another Game 7. Brace yourselves, Capitals fans.

Image
Another year, another Game 7. Brace yourselves, Capitals fans. Well, here we are again. Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals are preparing for another gut-wrenching Game 7 against the hated Penguins. Capitals fans are hoping for — and, after Monday’s dominating win in Pittsburgh, maybe even expecting — the best. No one could blame them for preparing for the worst. Washington is 4-10 all-time in Game 7s, including a 3-7 mark at home. The only teams with at least as many Game 7 losses are the Maple Leafs (10), Red Wings (11) and Bruins (12), who make up one half of the NHL’s Original Six. Wednesday also marks the Capitals’ 10th Game 7 during the Ovechkin Era, a 10-year run that has featured twice as many instances of heartbreak and disappointment as euphoria and happy handshake lines. This group doesn’t really care what’s happened in the past,” Capitals Coach Barry Trotz said before Washington closed out the Maple Leafs in six games in the first round...

A devastating tragedy’: Wife of ESPN’s Chris Berman killed in two-car crash in Connecticut The wife of Chris Berman, ESPN’s longtime broadcaster, was killed in a car crash in Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon, the day before Chris Berman’s 62nd birthday. Katherine Ann Berman, 67, and another driver died in the two-car accident that occurred at about 2:15 p.m. EDT on Route 64 in Woodbury. Edward Bertulis, 87, of Waterbury was the other fatality. State police told the Hartford Courant that the two cars collided, with Bertulis’s 2003 Ford Escape then striking a utility pole and rolling over onto its roof. Berman’s 2003 Lexus SC 430, veered off the road and went down an embankment, overturning in a small body of water. Police were investigating whether Bertulis had suffered a medical emergency just before Berman’s car crashed into the back of his car on Route 64 near Tuttle Road, a state police source told the Courant. Bertulis’ daughter, Nancy, told the Courant that...

Defending champion Penguins find Stanley Cup form against Capitals in Game 7

Image
Defending champion Penguins find Stanley Cup form against Capitals in Game 7 WASHINGTON — For the last period of Game 5, all of Game 6, and the opening two minutes of Game 7, the Pittsburgh Penguins looked like a group of players that had forgotten how they won the Stanley Cup 11 months ago. Then in the fourth and fifth minute of Game 7, the memory of how to succeed all came back to them. “That might be the best game that we’ve played in the playoffs to this point,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said after the Penguins downed the Washington Capitals 2-0 in Game 7.  “I thought that was the closest thing to the Penguins’ identity that we’ve seen in the playoffs so far.” After being dominated by the Capitals for four periods in two losses that tied the best-of-seven series 3-3, the Penguins rediscovered the level of composure and efficiency they commanded in last year’s run to the Stanley Cup. “Obviously a lot of people counted us out after last game, a...

Mother's Day: Interview your mom, and record it for posterity on your phone LOS ANGELES — This Mother's Day, do yourself and your family a favor and schedule an interview with your mother. I do it every year. We've spent hours for the family archive talking about her early days growing up in Indianapolis, her late in life vocation of making how-to-knit videos for YouTube and have even gone live on Facebook a few times (including a recent outing from the Hermosa Beach California Pier). So not a day goes by that people don't ask me, "What kind of camera should I buy to interview Mom?" or "what kind of accessories do I need?" We're here to help! The good news is, you don't need an expensive camera, because you have a great one in your pocket: the smartphone. And I can get you with the accessories you need for under $100. Up for the challenge? Great. So now you’re ready to sit down with mom and record video stories for Mother’...

The track, part of her sixth still-untitled studio album coming later this year, promises Cyrus' return to more traditional pop after a crazier phase over the past few years. Cyrus, who campaigned for Hillary Clinton and posted a tearful Instagram after the election results came in, explained that the album is also about trying to reach those who don't agree with her.

Show Me Your Papers, Texas-Style: Lawmakers Condemn SB4 as Greatest Legislative Threat to Immigrants Texas is facing growing criticism after the state’s Republican governor, Greg Abbott, signed into law one of the nation’s harshest immigration bills, SB 4. The state bans sanctuary cities and allows police officers to check the immigration status of anyone they detain. The law was opposed by many powerful forces in Texas, including the police chiefs of every big city in the state as well as major religious leaders. For more, we speak with Gregorio Casar, a member of the Austin City Council, and Texas state Representative Rafael Anchía, who serves as chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus in the Texas House of Representatives.

Glenn Greenwald on Trump's "Shocking" Firing of FBI Chief James Comey Amid Russian Probe

Image
Glenn Greenwald on Trump's "Shocking" Firing of FBI Chief James Comey Amid Russian Probe President Trump has set off a political firestorm after firing FBI Director James Comey, just weeks after Comey confirmed the FBI was investigating whether Trump’s campaign collaborated with Russia to sway the 2016 election. Trump said he made the decision based on the recommendation of newly appointed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who both faulted Comey’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server. Rosenstein faulted Comey’s remarks last July, when he announced the FBI would not seek charges against Clinton. The New York Times reports Sessions had been charged with coming up with reasons to fire Comey. For more, we speak with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, co-founder of The Intercept.

5 situations where you should never use a credit card

Image
5 situations where you should never use a credit card It is not easy to ignore a full front page advertisement in a newspaper promising good cash back, if you purchase it using a particular bank’s credit card. Rising consumerism and the lure of things like free credit period and reward points drive people to use credit cards anywhere and everywhere, but there are some situations where this could be detrimental to your finances. Here are some situations where you should exercise constraint and avoid using a credit card. #1: Treating it as an emergency fund: An emergency fund is a separate balance of money which prudent investors keep aside to tackle sudden costs. It should amount to at least 3-6 months of one’s monthly obligations. It can be maintained in a fixed deposit or other equally liquid fund. If you rely on credit card for emergencies and are not able to garner sufficient funds to pay the total amount due on the card on its due date, the interest that’ll show in your...

Bahuballi cross 1000 crores in just 10 days

Baahubali 2 Hindi movie review: Cocktail of grand stunts, visuals, terrible acting, closeted conservatism Fans of the Baahubali franchise have been discussing the hashtag #WKKB on the social media for a while now. If you have not guessed yet, that stands for “Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali”, a reference to the teaser in the closing scene of Baahubali: The Beginning in 2015. You will not find spoilers on the #WKKB front in this review. Hold on to your seats though for the answer to a far more pressing question: #DRTOHS. In the first film, the tribal boy Shivudu (Prabhas) discovered that he is, in fact, Mahendra Baahubali, son of the late great Amarendra Baahubali (also Prabhas) who was robbed of the throne of Mahishmati kingdom by the machinations of his cruel cousin Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubati) and uncle Bijjaladeva (Nassar). In Baahubali: The Conclusion , Mahendra hears the story of why and how that happened before setting off to avenge the deaths of his father and foster gra...
